Art3mis is introduced as a famous female gunter and blogger, and the crush of protagonist Wade Watts. She independently discovered the location of the Copper Key on the planet Ludus, in the recreation of the Dungeons & Dragons module Tomb of Horrors, though she had not yet beaten the AI Acererak when Parzival first met her. She cleared the First Gate shortly after Parzival did. After Wade confessed his feelings towards her, she declared that their relationship had been a mistake and ghosted him, causing him to become much more serious about the hunt. After five months, Art3mis finally found the Jade Key. Later, Parzival messaged Art3mis, Aech, and Shoto with instructions on how to get through the Second Gate and obtain the Crystal Key. IOI had plans to abduct Art3mis and force her to find the Easter egg for IOI, then kill her afterwards. At the climax, Parzival, Art3mis, Aech, and Shoto used their mechas to fight Sorrento's Mechagodzilla Kiryu. After Wade's victory, Art3mis, whose real name is Samantha, met Wade in person in Oregon and they rekindled their relationship with a kiss.
